$10 DIY Camera Slider – Film Riot
Cool slider, but I do agree with Ryan about not using DIY rigs on paid shoots. If you want to make a client feel like you can’t deliver, break something out with spray paint on it…they’ll be wondering why they hired you in a New York minute. For your own projects, these are an inexpensive way to get that ever important motion shot.
How to Cast a Video Production – Videomaker
This video from Videomaker magazine is a great reference for newbies who need an idea how to get started working with actors and the casting process. It’s also a great refresher for filmmakers who need to knock the rust off. Videomaker produces really dry reference materials, but are essential techniques if you don’t fall asleep while watching them.

$10 DIY Light Stand – Film Riot
Hey folks! I really have to say that I love this DIY project and will probably build it myself. I was actually looking for light stands recently and can’t believe how expensive they are. I may make a few mods to this, but overall I think this could well be used on any small set. I.E.: talking head shots, interviews and the like. Toodles!
Agents, Scripting Software, Permits and Texas – Film Riot
Great mail sack episode where Ryan talks script writing software, releases and more. I totally agree with him on these things. Always get it in writing and cover your ass. Enjoy…
Awesome Directors Project : Building Jump (Assassin’s Creed behind-the-scenes) – Zack King – Final Cut King
Zack King shares some basic camera techniques that will help you pull off big stunts. Plus there are great links to other great tutorials.
$25 DIY Dual Shoulder Mount
This is an effing great DIY build for DSLR shooters. Take a look at how Ryan puts this one together for his DSLR rig and try it yourself. I’m continually amazed at the uses we all find for PVC pipe. My Dad once built me a swing out of it. It lasted until it couldn’t handle my weight anymore, but it was still fun while it lasted.

Re-shoots, Corn, Wes Craven: The DANGER report 24
These guys produce a show Called the Danger Element and do a good job of it. This is a series they call the danger report where they give updates on their shooting schedule for future episodes. I usually wouldn’t post something like this, BUT they talk about re-shooting failed scenes for one reason or another. I think this is a detail that many independent film makers forget about. If you have the ability to re-shoot something that went wrong and you don’t do it, then you are shooting yourself in the foot.
What do you think about re-shoots? Let us know by leaving a comment below this post.
How to Get Rid of Hiss and Hums in Audio
Following are some good audio techniques to reduce unwanted frequencies if you are using Adobe products. Don’t forget, capturing room tone for a minimum of 30 seconds for every environment you shoot in will greatly allow you more control over your recorded audio and allow you to remove the room if necessary. Video maker usually creates great tip videos and I highly recommend their free videos especially for beginners.
