Create a Song Every Week

Collaborate with a new team each week to write, produce, and submit an original song. You’ll be paired with complementary creatives—artists, producers, writers, and musicians—to bring each track to life. Get hands-on guidance from industry pros who help refine your melody, lyrics, structure, and mix. Each week ends with expert feedback to sharpen your skills and elevate your process. By staying active in the program, you’ll build a growing catalog of songs and become more creatively productive than ever.

Module 1: The Songwriting Process

Module One is all about the creative process and building a strong foundation for great songwriting. Each week, you'll focus on crafting a new song, with close attention to toplining, melody, structure, production, and vocal performance. This phase emphasizes collaboration—developing the ability to share ideas constructively and work fluidly with others to bring a shared vision to life. You'll also dive into vocal training, vocal chains, and music production techniques that will take your tracks to the next level.

Module 2: Releasing Your Songs

Module Two focuses on giving you the tools to professionally release your music. While continuing to write and develop songs, you'll learn how to prepare a track for release—from registering copyrights and publishing to setting up distribution, collecting royalties, and handling the legal and business essentials. You'll also dive into branding, marketing, and social media strategy, along with music business insights that help you build a sustainable career. By the end of this phase, you’ll be equipped to confidently release your songs, collect earnings, and manage the full life cycle of your work.

Live Mentor
Sessions

Every month, we host a live master class at the Recording Club in Santa Monica, also streamed via Zoom for virtual members. These sessions feature mentors from across the music industry who share their journeys, teach specialized skills—from production and songwriting to artistry and instrumentation—and often include live performances or jam sessions. It’s a unique opportunity for members to learn directly from working professionals, connect with the community, and continue growing creatively and professionally in a collaborative space.

Orientation and Collaboration

  • Songwrting Assignment: Play to your interests. What is your favorite song and what are you known for?

  • Producers Submit Songs Sat for Review

ZOOM SONG REVIEW: FOLLOWING MON

  • Mentors review Songs via Group Zoom

GROUP WRITING ASSIGNMENT:

“One Day, One Song” Write a song that takes place over the course of a single day — morning to night.

Goal: Timeline-based writing, progression, mood shifts.

Week 2

Songwriting: Crafting Your Song

MENTOR COURSES:

GROUP WRITING ASSIGNMENT:

Start with a pre-written song title. No idea, no melody — just the title. Let it lead everything.

Goal: Concept development, intentional lyric shaping.

Week 3

Vocals Training and Recording

MENTOR COURSES:

- Vocal Performance Tips

- Vocal Production

GROUP WRITING ASSIGNMENT:

Your chorus must revolve around one single word. Build repetition, tension, and meaning around it.

Goal: Hook development, lyrical efficiency, emphasis.

Week 4

Music Production and Mixing

MENTOR COURSES:

  • Beats & Groove: Build a rhythmic foundation that fits your genre and lyric pacing
  • Instrumentation: Choose key sounds (piano, synths, guitars, pads, etc.) that support the mood
  • Music Theory: Use chord progressions, key changes, and more music theory
  • GROUP WRITING ASSIGNMENT:

    Write a song revealing something deeply personal — something you might not admit in conversation.

    Goal: Vulnerability, honesty, emotional power.

    Week 5

    Music Rights & Song Ownership

    MENTOR COURSES:

  • What a music publisher actually does
  • Copyright basics and how to protect your work
  • The difference between master rights and publishing rights
  • How PROs (ASCAP, BMI, etc.) track and pay you
  • What to know about splits, sync, and co-writing agreements
  • GROUP WRITING ASSIGNMENT:

    Pick a real artist (past or present) and write a song as if you were pitching it to them.

    Goal: Understanding voice, brand, and audience.

    Week 6

    Distribution: Time to Release Music

    MENTOR COURSES:

  • What makes a song stand out for release?
  • How to balance personal connection with audience impact
  • Demo vs. master: how to assess your current version
  • Feedback sessions to help identify your strongest track
  • GROUP WRITING ASSIGNMENT:

    Write a song as if it’s being placed in a specific film or TV moment — you choose the vibe or reference the show.

    Goal: Sync-writing practice, tone-matching, storytelling.

    Week 7

    Marketing Your Music and Brand

    MENTOR COURSES::

  • Choosing the right platforms (Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, etc.) for your audience
  • What to post: BTS, voice memos, lyrics, visual content, release-day promos
  • Crafting a compelling artist story and message
  • Content calendars: how to stay consistent without burnout
  • Understanding algorithms vs. authenticity
  • How to soft-launch, tease, and release your song like a pro
  • GROUP WRITING ASSIGNMENT:

    “Flip the Emotion” Take a sad topic and write it with an uplifting tone — or vice versa

    Goal: Contrast, creative tone-shifting, unexpected storytelling .

    Week 8

    Music Biz: Turning Songs Into Careers

    MENTOR COURSES::

  • What labels actually do: marketing, budgets, teams, creative input
  • The evolving role of A&R: what they look for, how they find talent
  • Types of deals (360, distribution, publishing) and what to watch out for
  • How to build a DIY artist ecosystem: digital tools, community, release planning
  • Realistic income streams and how to stack them: streaming, live, sync, merch, patronage
  • What success can look like outside the major label system
  • GROUP WRITING ASSIGNMENT:

    “Dialogue Song” Write the entire song as a conversation between two people — alternating perspectives or blended into one.

    Goal: Character voice, lyric realism, perspective.
